The adjustable leather strap is used to attach the elbow cups around the arm to secure them. In the Middle Ages many infantrymen could not afford proper full plate armor, so they used these light item to protect their arms. Also known as a cowter, the curved piece of metal is molded with rounded to assist in deflecting blows. This set is polished and oiled to prevent rusting.
